Proteases are enzymes that account for about 2% of the human genome, and 1-5% of genomes of infectious organisms. They are important in conception and birth, life, ageing, and death of all organisms. Australian and international researchers are studying proteases, their receptors and inhibitors to better understand the biology of life and the treatment of diseases.
