Research
We use proteomics to investigate the interaction between cellular proteases and viruses and viral proteases and cells. We also use proteomic mapping protein metabolism to define protease processing within cells. Activation of viral precursor proteins, particularly paramyxovirus fusion protein biosynthetic precursors, by host cellular proteins has been of interest for a long time because of an association with virulence. We are currently working collaborating with Dr Gerry Both of the CSIRO on processing of cellular cytoskeletal components by adenovirus proteases. Proteolytic processing of flavirus proteins also forms another interest. The mass spectrometry approaches used to study viral related proteolysis are also Immediately applicable to the study of any Intracellular or extracellular proteolysis system.
